North Fork Helps Kait's Angels Make Holidays Bright For Needy

Santa's elves were in full swing on the North Fork recently, helping Kait's Angels bring holiday cheer to those in need.

NORTH FORK, NY — Real-life Christmas elves have been working hard to help Kait's Angels make the holidays bright for the less fortunate on the North Fork.

Kait's Angels, an organization created in memory of Mattituck's Kaitlyn Doorhy, who lost her life tragically at 20 while away at college, organized events recently that saw the joy of the holidays in full swing.

Last week, they stuffed a giant Kait's Angels trailer to the brim to help the needy at an event held at East on Main in Mattituck; the event included entertainment, giveaways and a caring group who turned out with lots of toys and gifts.

Liz Liszanckie, who grew up in Greenport and now lives in Riverhead, just celebrated her 40th birthday with a casino night — and used all the money raised to benefit Kait's Angels and Community Action of Southold Town. Carrying a big box of toys worthy of Santa's best efforts, she attended the Mattituck event and said giving back was a blessing. Many of the toys, she added, were collected at her brother Jim Liszanckie's eatery, Sunny's Riverhead Diner & Grill, with the help of Chris Nagorski.

"This is the most caring, giving group of people," Darla Doorhy, Kait's mother, said.

Even children learned the important lesson of giving back: Fourth grade students in Tanya Leondari's fourth grade class at St. John Paul II Regional School in Riverhead donated a truckload of toys and clothes to Kait's Angels.

And that's not all.

On Friday, at Southold High School Auditorium, the Inspire Dance Centre presented its "Winter Charity Showcase," a benefit concert with proceeds donated to Kait's Angels; a check was presented for $4,425 to help those in need.

And at 8:25 p.m. on December 28, at CJ's American Grill in the Mattituck Shopping Plaza, Kait's Angels will be picking the winning ticket for the organization's $6,500 dinner raffle. Tickets cost $25 to win a four-course, farm-to-table dinner for 20, prepared by a private chef at Pellegrini Vineyard.

"This North Fork experience includes a customized menu prepared and served by private Chris Richards of East End events and CJ's American Bar & Grill and a barrel wine tasting at one of Long Island's most prestigious vineyards, Pellegrini Vineyard," organizers said.

The winning ticket holder need not be present on Dec. 28 to win. The prize is valued at $6,500.
The dinner will take place on Feb. 28, 2020.
