North Fork Man Caught With Loaded Semi-Automatic Handgun During Traffic Stop: Police

He was stopped for a traffic infraction and then officers saw the loaded gun, police say.

NORTH FORK, NY — A Cutchogue man was arrested Monday after he was found with a loaded handgun during a traffic stop, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place at 2:50 p.m. on Bridge Lane in Cutchogue. Joseph G. Worysz, 27, was stopped for a vehicle-and-traffic infraction, police said.

During the interview, an open alcoholic beverage was located in the center console — and there was a cooler on the passenger seat of the vehicle that contained a loaded 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun, police said.

Worysz was arrested, charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; as well as failure to maintain lane and driving with an open alcoholic beverage, police said.

He was processed and held for arraignment, police said.
