North Fork Shelters Full, Adoptions Needed To Save Dogs' Lives
"If we don't get animals out of the shelters we will not be able to help dogs that are going to be euthanized."
NORTH FORK, NY — With a heart full of love, Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations at The League, which has animal shelters in Peconic and Aquebogue, has embarked upon life-saving transports, bringing dogs destined for euthanasia to the North Fork.
However, the shelters are now filled to the brim, she said. Stroup, who is trying to make room for a new transport on May 20 from Georgia, where kill shelters exist, will not be able to accept any new animals "if we don't make room," she said.

She added: "We are trying to save as many as we can. However, adoptions have slowed down and we are now full with great dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens at both locations. We need everyone's help — adoption and fostering are needed, so we can save some more on the 20th. If we don't get animals out of the shelters we will not be able to help the dogs that are going to be euthanized."
