SOUTHOLD, NY — A popular shop in Southold will be closing its doors Wednesday as owner Catherine Earl bids adieu to the North Fork — and her business Beacheeky.

Beacheeky, originally located in the Feather Hill shopping plaza at the site of the former Hudson City Savings Bank, opened in 2019 and later moved to Einstein Square last year.

But now, friend Laraine Henry has been posting on Facebook about the shop's closure, showing photos of the prom dresses, fixtures, and other items still for sale.

Earl spoke with Patch about her decision to close. "We decided that moving the family to Florida at this time was what is best for us, and we are happy with our decision. The kids love it and asked why we didn't do it sooner," she said.

The hardest part, she added, was leaving all their friends and the business.

"My customers are the best and I will miss meeting so many wonderful people, building friendships and just having a great time," Earl said. "It never felt like coming to work. And I want to thank the amazing team of women I had working with me and by my side through all of it. I couldn't have asked for more amazing friends and experience. Thank you, everyone."

Beacheeky featured women's and men's apparel and cozy, fun beachwear, as well as candles, casual jewelry, including beach glass creations, and other giftware.

Earl made a home in Southold with her husband Jeff — who is retired from the Navy and a pilot for United Airlines — and their three boys, Corey, Harley, and Brady.

Born in Massapequa, Earl has lived in a sea of coastal locales over the years, including Hawaii, San Diego, and the Gulf Coast, before setting down roots in Southold and now, finding new vistas in Florida.

The siren song of coastal living has always called to her, she said. "I'm a beach girl," Earl said.

Earl said, in 2019, that she has long believed that everything happens when it's supposed to; she felt the stars were in alignment as she opened her Beacheeky doors for the first time. And now, she's ready to follow her new path toward all that's yet to unfold.

"I really will miss this place and everyone I've met along the way," Earl said. "But this new chapter is what was meant to be."
