Nose Gear Collapses As Plane Crashes At Mattituck Airport: FAA

MATTITUCK, NY — The nose gear of a single-engine Cessna 150 collapsed after the plane crashed at Mattituck Airport on Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Only the pilot was on board the aircraft, which had a registration number of N50133, the FAA said.

Southold Town Police said that the crash took place at 3:32 p.m. at the airport, located at 410 Airway Drive. Bernard Stepnoski, 84, of Mattituck, was piloting the plane, which was found just off the runway in the grass with front-end damage, police said. He was the only occupant and did not sustain any injuries, police said.

The investigation into the cause of the crash has been turned over to the FAA, which will post a preliminary accident/incident report, officials said.
