Obituary: Jessie Hartman Jr., Former Greenport Resident, Dies at 58

The father of two passed away on Saturday.

Jessie M. Hartman Jr., former Greenport resident, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, March 21. He was 58.

Hartman was born in Greenport, to an Air Force family, he lived all over the country and in Japan.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army for eight years.

He received his commission from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 1978 as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry.

When Hartman left service, he had achieved the rank of Captain and served as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Regiment at Fort Hood, TX and twice as a Company Commander in the 3rd Armored Division at various posts throughout Germany.

After serving his country, he eventually became a quality engineer for Valeo, Inc., for whom he worked for 15 years.

He then held various quality positions with different companies and ultimately landed at Johnson Electric in Vandalia, OH as regional quality director, where he has worked for the past two years.

Hartman traveled extensively for his job and never met a stranger, making life-long friends wherever he went.

He was an avid golfer, always enjoyed the company of his friends and family, and nothing made him happier than to host a gathering where people came together to celebrate and have a good time.

He particularly enjoyed spending time with his son Jamie and his daughter Niki and took great pride in their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Fochtman) Hartman, son Jamie Hartman, daughter Monika Hartman, former wife and mother of his children, Theresa (Stauffer) Hartman, and sisters Donna Hartman, Tammy (Hartman) Camfield, and Rose “Tinky” Hartman; and many friends.

The family will receive friends from on Thursday, March 26 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Routsong Funeral Home on 2100 E. Stroop Road in Kettering, Ohio, with a service to immediately follow.

If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
