Obituary: Leander B. Glover 'June' Jr., Former Cutchogue Fire Department Chief, Dies at 89

The long-time member of the department passed away last Wednesday.

Leander B. Glover ‘June‘ Jr., a former chief for the Cutchogue Fire Department, died in his home on Wednesday, April 1. He was 89.

For the past 72 years, Glover had remained an active firefighter holding many positions throughout the Fire Company, and served as an active member of the Cutchogue Fire Department Fire Police Squad until his death.

He served as Chief of the Cutchogue Fire Department in 1963 and 1964 and at the time of his passing was Cutchogue Fire Department’s most senior Ex-Chief.

He also served as a Suffolk County Fire Coordinator for Southold Town for many years, before retiring from that position in the mid 1990’s and had the designation as coordinator “801”.

Glover was also known for his involvement the North Fork Volunteer Fireman’s Association, where he served for many years as a parade and drill official.

He has two sons Everett and Allan Glover, both ex-chiefs of the department.

“The Chiefs, Officers and Members of the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Evie, Allan and the entire Glover Family,” a message on the Fire Department’s website read.
