Obituary: Lois Brandstetter, of Southold, Dies at 80
Visitation will take place on Thursday.

Lois Brandstetter, of Southold, passed away on Monday, October 26, with her children at her side. She was 80.
Brandstetter was born in the Bronx and spent part of her early childhood in Lake Carmel.
She graduated from James Monroe High School in the Bronx.

As a young woman, she worked as a secretary in Manhattan while still living in the Bronx.
Brandstetter met her future husband, Robert Brandstetter, at church while singing in the choir. The two were married in 1956.

Thec couple eventually moved to Levittown where they raised three children.
As a mom, Brandstetter was a Brownie and a Girl Scout Leader.
She took on the role as class mother several times, chaperoning school trips, PTA meetings, attended concerts and went to every meet the teacher night there was.
Drawing on her secretarial skills, she was known to stay up late to type a last minute report for a procrastinating child.
She ran the household, prepared meals, organized holidays and took care of elderly family members.
Brandstetter began taking classes at SUNY Farmingdale in the mid 1970’s with an interest in health care.
She eventually received a professional certificate as an EEG Technologist and took a position with the NCMC Department of Neurology.
In 1984, she received that departments Distinguished Service Award.
After 20 years of service to Nassau County, Brandstetter retired with her husband to the new home they built in Southold.
She was an active member of St Peter’s Church where she sang in the choir and participated in numerous church committees and groups.
Her husband passed away in Oct. 2014 after 58 years of marriage.
She is survived by daughter Lisa Kunze and husband Charles; son John and wife Pamela; son Matthew and wife Laura; grandchildren Bryan, Christine, Alexa, Kayleigh and Ashlynn.
The family will be receiving visitors at DeFriest-Grattan in Southold on Thursday Oct. 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A service will be held on Fri. Oct. 30 starting at 10 a.m. at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery with Bob.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to either St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport, or the Southold Volunteer Fire Department.
