Obituary: Mitchell Wilcenski, of Laurel, Dies at 85.

Mitchell Wilcenski, a lifelong Laurel resident, passed away at his home on May 10, 2015. He was 85.

Wilcenski was born to Mary and Aleksander Wilcenski on May 28, 1929.

He graduated from Mattituck High School in 1946 and married Theresa Berkoski May 29, 1949, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue.

He began his career as a farmer and then worked as a corrections officer at Suffolk County Correctional Facility, until his retirement in the early 1990s as captain.

During his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, clamming, crabbing, painting, working around the house and in his garage.

Wilcenski was also an avid gardener and enjoyed doing his daily crossword puzzle.

He was predeceased by his son, Ronald and his granddaughter, Donna Lynn Wilcenski.

Wilcenski is survived by his wife, Theresa; sons, Mark, Thomas and Michael, and daughters, Joan McCarthy, Laurie Salvadori and Therese Gillan. He also had ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 16 at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church, and followed by a private spreading of his ashes on Peconic Bay.
