Richard Lawrence Burnett, of Jamesport, died on June 23 after a long battle against cancer, He was 72.
Burnett served his country in the United States Air Force, loved to sing, loved the outdoors and took pride in taking care of his home.

He had a powerful presence and a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Sacks); his step-mother, Wylie Burnett; three children, Dawn Castillo and husband Victor, Lany Burnett-Orsini and husband Matthew, and Jessy Burnett and his fiancé Patrick Heusner as well as his siblings, sisters Marsha (Burnett) Collymore, Delores (Burnett) Reeder, and Alice (Burnett) Alexander and brother Wallace Burnett.

Burnett is predeceased by his parents, Joseph Burnett and Henrietta (Jones) Burnett and two brothers, Joseph Jr.and David Burnett.
Visitation took place at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold on June 27 with services following.
