Open Studio At The Watermill Center This Saturday
Entang Wiharso will host an open studio this Saturday, Sept. 20 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:50 p.m.

Artist Entang Wiharso will host an open studio at The Watermill Center this Saturday, Sept. 20 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Wilharso’s latest works consists of vibrant-hued yarn paintings and graphite sculptural reliefs - have been inspired by Robert Wilson’s extensive collection of Indonesian textiles.
The mixed-media artist, celebrated for his large-scale sheet metal works influenced by the native Wayang Kulit tradition of shadow puppetry, has transported small, historic wooden and clay objects from his studios in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and Rhode Island, to Watermill, to be fused with modern materials including aluminum, brass and copper.

“My works are based upon layers of experiences. I explore preexisting objects from the likes of temples and churches, and renew their identities by infusing my own stories,” Wiharso said. “It’s an interesting moment for me to contemplate these objects in a different context. I did not expect to be as influenced by the setting and location of The Watermill Center as I am, so this clearly marks a new journey for me.”
