Parent Conversation About School Safety Planned
The Mattituck-Cutchogue district-wide event is for parents only, to discuss the issues with police and school administrators.

MATTITUCK, NY — After 17 people were shot and killed and numerous others injured when a former student opened fire in a horrific act of mass violence at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, local school officials on the North Fork have been mapping out strategies for amped up security.
To that end, the Mattituck-Cutchogue Union Free School District PTA and PTSA have organized a "Parent Conversation About School Safety," to be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Mattituck High School Library, located at 15125 Main Road.
"Recent events have given all of us cause to pause and wonder about the measures our school district takes to ensure the safety of our students," organizers said. "Many security activities are obvious and there are probably many questions."

Tensions have escalated locally since the horrific school shooting: Last week, an "unsubstantiated threat" on social media sparked an uptick in police presence and at least one district on lockout at local East End schools.
