Person Dies After Being Struck By LIRR Train Near Southold: MTA
The person was struck Monday morning, officials say.
SOUTHOLD, NY — A person died after being struck by a Long Island Rail Road train in Southold Monday morning, according to the MTA LIRR.
According to an MTA spokesperson, the incident took place at 8:53 a.m. and involved an eastbound train headed for Greenport. The "unauthorized" individual on the tracks, who has not yet been identified, was struck a bit west of the Southold station.
Service was suspended for a while but not many trains were affected and as of 11:34 a.m., all service was restored, the MTA said.

The incident appears to be non-criminal in nature, the MTA said.
According to the MTA, the 7:30 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma, due in Greenport at 8:54 a.m., was operating two hours and 35 minutes late through Mattituck.

The investigation is ongoing, MTA officials said.
