Long Island fire departments flocked to Greenport for the annual Washington's Birthday Parade.

GREENPORT, NY — Under sunshine and blue skies, a beloved tradition kicked off again Saturday as crowds flocked to watch the 172nd Annual Greenport Washington's Birthday Parade.

Saturday's festivities marked 172 years for the parade, organized by the Greenport Fire Department — the event is well-loved and brings scores of fire departments from across Long Island to the village.

This year's grand marshal was Pete Harris, who marched proudly before his car.

The event began at 1 p.m. at Greenport High School, wending its way down down Front Street before making a left on Main Street, a left on Center Street, and ending with clam chowder and hot dogs at the at Third Street Firehouse.
