A team of angels hosted the fundraiser at Yogurt Expressions in Mattituck Saturday.
Darla Doorhy and Danielle Harrison-Meraz have never even met.
But that didn’t matter Saturday night, when Kait’s Angels, an organization formed to honor the memory of Kait Doorhy, 20,a beloved member of the Mattituck community who died while away at college in 2014, hosted the Kait’s Angels Yogurt Bowl at Yogurt Expressions in Mattituck to help raise funds for the Southold woman, who is battling cancer of the brain, lungs, and spleen.
Helping those in need, even people they’ve never met, is the deeply ingrained mission that Kait’s Angels’s members hold close to their hearts.

Darla Doorhy, Kait’s mom, said when they learned about Harrison-Meraz’s plight, Kait’s Angels soared into action. The goal, Doorhy said, “is to perform Angel Acts of kindness.”
Wearing bright pink T-shirts and scarves —Kait’s favorite color — members of Kait’s Angels, including Molly Waitz, served up a fun event Saturday, complete with delicious frozen yogurt and a yummy array of toppings.

Doorhy said when Susan Orioli, owner of Yogurt Expressions, as well as her son Jim and daughter Gionna, heard about the plans to help Harrison-Meraz, she offered up the shop, and all the delectable treats, to lend her support. Guests contributed to a free will donation, with all proceeds to benefit Harrison-Meraz, a Southold woman who has remained upbeat and cheerful in the face of her challenge.
Orioli is also the owner of NOFO Real Estate in Mattituck,.”This family was amazing and so giving to this Kait’s Angel event. They all volunteered to make this event possible,” Doorhy said.
In addition, the Kait’s Angels team turned out in force, including Aileen Rosin, Lynne Krauza, William Araneo, Beth, Grace and Faith Shipman, Laurie and Jenn Italia, and Carly, Darla and Joe Doorhy.
