Pirates, Mermaids A'Plenty At 33rd Annual Greenport Maritime Festival

GREENPORT, NY — Mermaids and pirates a'plenty will fill the streets of Greenport soon as the 33rd Annual Maritime Festival kicks off in the village.

Presented by the East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation, the festival takes place Sept. 23 to 25, with highlights including the Merry Merfolk Parade, Sea Shanties and the Tall Ship Amistad, which will be docked in the harbor.

The festival kicks off Friday, Sept. 23 with the Land & Sea Gala presented by Claudio’s of Greenport from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Greenport Yacht & Shipbuilding Yard, located at 201 Carpenter Street. The event will honor the 2022 grand marshals Elizabeth Peeples and Stefanie Bassett, the co-owners of Little Ram Oyster Co.

The event features fare from more than 25 local restaurants, craft cocktails and regional wines, live auctions, a DJ, dancing and more; the evening will host festive mermaids, pirates, and sea creatures. For tickets, click here.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Maritime Festival is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features local craft food and beverage vendors, food trucks, live music, wine and beer tastings, oyster tastings and vendors.

A variety of maritime events will take place for adults and children and continue throughout both days, including the roving Sea Shanties singers and visits to the Tall Ship Amistad, which will be docked at the East End Seaport Museum, located next to the Shelter Island Ferry. Free arts and crafts and treasure chest for the kids can found in Captain Kidd’s Alley in Mitchell Park.

Special highlights for the weekend include the Merry Merfolk Parade, which takes place Saturday at 11 a.m., beginning on Broad Street. The annual parade includes the Merry Merfolk, local fire departments, community organizations, and more.

A merfolk contest, organized by Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program and The Sirens’ Song Art Studio, follows the parade in Mitchell Park. To participate, click here. Also on Saturday, kayak races take place at 2 p.m.

On Sunday, September 25, in addition to a snapper contest for kids, the drawing for the Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital's Dream Green fundraiser will take place, with a top prize of $50,000. Tickets will be available all weekend prior to the drawing.
