NORTH FORK, NY — The Plum Island Lighthouse is set for a facelift.

According to Rep. Lee Zeldin, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has begun preparation work for an iron works repair project at the lighthouse. The repairs were made possible by the securing of $1.5 million in federal funds in 2019 for DHS and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to stabilize the lighthouse, Zeldin said.

Zeldin has also worked to have language included in December 2020 government funding legislation that prevented Plum Island from being sold to the highest bidder.
