Police: 11-Year-Old Girl Hurt in East Marion Crash, Mother Was Driving on Drugs

A 41-year-old woman faces several charges following crash Tuesday morning, police say.

An 11-year-old girl was hospitalized with a head injury after a car accident in which her mother was driving while under the influence of drugs in East Marion on Tuesday morning, according to Southold Town Police.

Officers were called to Eastern Long Island Hospital to investigate a single-car accident that occurred on Old Orchard Lane at about 7:30 a.m., police said.

Jessica Spence, 41, of East Marion, was at the hospital with her daughter, police said. The child suffered a head injury in the crash, but police did not specify how serious her injuries are.

Police determined that Spence was driving while impaired by prescription drugs, police said.

She was arrested for aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law, driving while impaired by drugs, leaving the scene of an accident and endangering the welfare of a child, according to police.

She was transported to headquarters, processed and held awaiting arraignment.
