Police Capture Large Bearded Iguana in Greenport
The four foot iguana was spotted in a wooded area by Sound Drive on Sunday afternoon.

Police captured a large iguana found in the woods in Greenport on Sunday afternoon, according to Southold Town Police.
Stephen Husak, 50, of Cutchogue reported finding a four foot bearded iguana in a wooded area by Sound Drive at about 12:40 p.m., police said.
Upon arrival the reptile had climbed partly up a tree, police said.

Local Officer Frank Rogers secured the animal to prevent it from ascending further into the tree, according to police.
Rogers then ,with the assistance of other officers and personnel from the North Fork Animal League, placed the reptile into a crate, according to police.

The reptile was transported to the Animal League for safekeeping until a possible owner could be identified.
