Police: Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase With Minors in Car

The man was caught after he crashed into a farm field, police say.

A Southold man was arrested on drug charges after attempting to flee police with minors in his car before he crashed in Mattituck on Saturday morning, according to Southold Town Police.

An officer saw Victor Perez, 22, violating vehicle and traffic laws while driving on New Suffolk Avenue at about 12:45 a.m., police said.

When the officer tried to pull him over, Perez shut off his lights and drove at a high speed through a red light, police said.

He continued to flee the officer, blowing stop signs and failing to signal his turns, while driving eastbound on New Suffolk Avenue at about 90 mph, police said.

He eventually crashed into a farm field by Locust Avenue, according to police.

Perez and a passenger fled the car and were apprehended a short distance away by the officer, police said.

Upon further investigation, he was found to have marijuana in his car and two underage minors, police said.

Perez was arrested for unlawful fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, endangering the welfare of a minor, criminal possession of marijuana, speeding and multiple other violations, police said.

He was held for morning arraignment.
