Police: Man With Nine Suspensions on License Tries to Hide From Police
The man ran away from his car and hid in a bathroom, police say.
A Greenport man with multiple suspensions on his license was arrested after trying to hide from police in Greenport on Sunday afternoon, according to Southold Town Police.
Police saw Alfred Welch, 56, violate a vehicle and traffic law on Route 48 at about 3:17 p.m., police said.
He then fled from his car into a basement to hide from the officer, police said.

He was found in the first floor bathroom hiding and was found to have nine suspensions on his license, suspended registration for insurance not in affect, and for having a forged inspection sticker not belonging to his car, according to police.
He was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing.
