Police: Mattituck Man Arrested in Connection to High School Gunshot Incident
The incident occurred earlier this month.

A Mattituck man was arrested in connection to the incident where gunshots were heard near Mattituck High School earlier this month, according to Southold Town Police.
Edward Hug, 26, was charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon and illegal discharge of a weapon on Monday night after allegedly discharging his shotgun outside in his yard in a “skyward direction,” police said.
On Tuesday, Oct. 6 at about 5:30 p.m., police responded to the high school during a soccer game on reports of several gunshots heard in the area by Pike Street, police said.

The game in progress on the athletic field was postponed. All students and spectators were cleared from the fields and into the high school, according to police.
Officers canvassed the area surrounding the school, interviewing neighbors and school staff and eventually determined the area was safe for everyone to leave the grounds, police said.
