Police Use Drone To Help Find Man Lost On Beach

The "highly intoxicated" man walked away from his girlfriend on the beach in Greenport and was found in dense vegetation, police say.

GREENPORT, NY — Police located a man who was reported lost on a Greenport beach last week, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on Monday, Aug. 22 at 11:08 p.m. on a beach off of Sound Road. Just after 11 pm, the Southold Police Department received a call about a "highly intoxicated" male who had walked away from his girlfriend at 67 Steps Beach and was unable to be found, police said.

Southold Police responded and, after a search of the beach, deployed a drone with a spotlight attachment to search the bluff, authorities said.

He was quickly located by the drone operator in the dense vegetation on the bluff about a quarter mile east of 67 Steps Beach, police said. Officers then helped him down the bluff and back to his girlfriend, police said.
