Police: Woman Charged With Driving While on Drugs in Southold

The incident occurred on Thursday.

A Middle Island woman was arrested for driving while on drugs in Southold on Thursday afternoon, according to Southold Town Police

While on patrol, officers saw a car stopped on the side of the road that appeared to require police assistance on County Route 48 near Boisseau Avenue at about 1:13 p.m., police said.

Upon investigating, the car was found to be occupied by the driver, Jessica Kurtz, 38, and a passenger, and had stopped when they became disoriented, police said.

Police found that Kurtz had smoked crack cocaine and was under the influence at the time of the incident, according to police.

Inside the car, police found two small pills and other drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Kurtz was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

She was transported to Southold Town Police Department headquarters and was held overnight awaiting arraignment in the morning
