On Tuesday, chef and owner George Giannaris of the Hellenic Snack Bar & Restaurant in East Marion will offer a special "I Stand With Ukraine" menu, with all proceeds donated to help the citizens of Ukraine.
Last week, a rally in support was held in East Hampton.
A rally was also held in Riverhead: Carrying signs that said "No War," "Glory to Ukraine, Glory to Our Heroes," "Ukraine Needs Support: Just Words Are Not Enough," and "Stand With Ukraine," members of the East End came together in solidarity for Ukraine Monday — after news of a Russian invasion last week sent shock waves reverberating throughout the world.
The rally, organized by St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church in Riverhead, was held outside Riverhead Town Hall and brought out a crowd of more than 100, with speakers including Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar, Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming, and many from the Ukrainian community.
Members of the Riverhead Town board also attended the event, which had residents from toddlers to seniors gathered together, holding signs, and voicing their fierce loyalty to the Ukraine. Those in attendance sang the Ukraine national anthem and other Ukrainian songs.
Also, across Long Island, donations drives are commencing to help Ukraine: In Westhampton, the Junior Company of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department collected items Saturday.
