F. H. Robinson Jr. paid due tribute to his friend Gilbert {“Gibby”} H. Terry in the March 15, 1945 Traveler. Mr. Robinson shared in the outstanding write-up that: “When our great State of New York required the recruitment of a company of State Troops for the relief of Federal Units assigned to the North Fork area, “Gibby” was one of the first to offer his and drilled with Company “D,” 2nd Battalion, even though he could not muster in with the troops on November 5, 1942, because of his Federal enlistment.” Terry was KIA {“Killed In Action”} as a result of a mid-air collision October 22, 1944.
A Memorial Service was held in the Methodist Church of Southold on Sunday, March 11, 1945 for Gibby Terry. Southold Presbyterian Church Cemetery has a grave marker attributed to Gilbert H. Terry. October 22, 2015, Sue Fox Moyer entered on the findagrave listing of Gilbert H. Terry II: “The 306th Bomb Group honors your sacrifice.”
