GREENPORT, NY — Caring for someone with cognitive impairments isn't easy and often, some feel there is no time to rejuvenate and unwind, without worrying about a loved one's well-being.

To that end, Peconic Landing has launched a new respite care program in its memory support community, Harbor South. The new program offers short-term stays for individuals living with cognitive impairments while their loved ones and caregivers are able to take a break — giving them time to travel, work, or simply rest.

Harbor South, built during Peconic Landing’s expansion in 2016, specializes in Alzheimer’s and dementia care at the Assisted Living level. The 16-suite neighborhood was designed to feel like home, with family-style dining, community living spaces, a screening room, sensory room, outdoor garden, and more.

“Here at Peconic Landing, we know the level of work and dedication that is involved in caring for a loved one,” said Robert J. Syron, president and CEO of Peconic Landing. “It’s so important for caregivers to prioritize their own well-being and take time off to restore balance in their lives, so we are very pleased to offer that opportunity to the greater community for the first time.”

Respite guests can enjoy spacious private accommodations, artistic and educational opportunities, and social events and outings, while their loved ones can have peace of mind knowing healthcare professionals are available 24/7 with a state-of-the-art personal response system in place, Peconic Landing representatives said.
