Riverhead High School Honor Music Ensembles Earn Top Honors at Philadelphia Music in the Parks Festival

Students Enjoy Immersive Field Trip Blending Performance, History, and Collegiate-Level Exploration

RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK—Riverhead High School’s honor music students recently enjoyed an unforgettable field trip to Philadelphia, experiencing a rich blend of musical learning and outstanding achievement.

“This trip was an extraordinary experience for all involved, one that showcased the dedication, talent, and hard work of our student-musicians,” said Riverhead High School jazz ensemble director Crystal Crespo. “During the visit, students toured the historic city of Philadelphia and had the opportunity to explore Temple University’s music program, gaining valuable insight into collegiate-level performance and study.”

In addition to exploring Philadelphia’s rich history and culture of music, Riverhead High School competed in the Music in the Parks festival, earning top honors across multiple categories. The wind ensemble captured first place with a superior rating and was named Best Overall Concert Band. The jazz ensemble earned first place with a superior rating and was recognized as Best Overall Jazz Ensemble. The chamber orchestra also achieved first place with a superior rating, and the chamber choir took second place with a superior rating.

In addition to accolades received by the ensembles, two Riverhead students were celebrated for their individual talent. Senior Christian Seymour was named Best Overall Jazz Soloist, and junior Jarell Gilliam was recognized as Best Overall Vocalist.
