Riverhead Man Dies In Single-Car Crash In Laurel

The crash took place on Main Road in Laurel Monday, police say.

LAUREL, NY — A Riverhead man died in a Laurel crash Monday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the crash took place at 2:45 p.m. on New York State Route 25. Angelos Stavropoulos, 68, was driving a 2021 Toyota pickup truck eastbound on when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree in front of a residence, police said.

Police officers were able to remove Stavropoulos from his vehicle and initiate CPR; the Mattituck Fire Department responded and continued medical care, police said.

An eyewitness told Patch she was driving and saw the car veer off the road before crashing.

Stavropoulos was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The crash is being investigated by the Southold Town Police Department's detective division, authorities said.
