Rosie, 29 Lb. Boxer Mix Rescued By North Fork Shelter, Was Starved
The starving dog was rescued from Georgia, especially fitting during April, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month, animal advocate says.

NORTH FORK, NY — April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month, and a North Fork shelter continues its tireless work to find new homes for four-footed friends who have seen unspeakable conditions.
According to Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations for The League in Peconic and Aquebogue — formerly known as the North Fork Animal Welfare League — Rosie was brought from Georgia to the North Fork this week.
Rosie, a 13-month-old boxer mix she said, was starved and deprived of medical care and weighed just 29 lbs. According to the Coosa Valley News, a Lindale couple, James Jeremy Forsyth, 46, and Amanda Anne Forsyth, 46, were arrested at their home on Spring Circle after reports said they starved the dog.

The Justice Fund was named in honor of Justice, a dog who was tossed into a dumpster and abandoned; after his story was told, the phones began ringing at the animal shelter with potential new families.
In 24 hours, Justice sparked a sea of love from people far and wide who wanted to erase the suffering he endured in his earlier life and offer him a second chance.
The response was so incredible, said Stroup, that the new effort was launched in his name.
"The Justice Fund" will help other abused and neglected dogs, Stroup said. "We have other dogs waiting that are cruelty or neglect cases, that come from the kill shelters to us. The Justice Fund will go to helping get those dogs here, and ready for homes."
Carbon, the Justice Fund recipient, was adopted Tuesday after just three weeks on the North Fork.
Additional dogs rescued by The League in the latest transport were Olivia, who was found chained up, and two puppies found in a dumpster, Stroup said.

"We are so thrilled to have started The Justice Fund so we can help dogs who have endured cruelty and neglect get to us — and find them their happy lives," Stroup said.
