Man, Woman Shot In Riverhead Parking Lot: Police

The shootings are believed to have happened after an argument escalated, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY —A man and woman were shot early Saturday after an argument in a Riverhead parking lot, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 1:42 a.m.; officers responded to The Caboose Pub on Railroad Avenue in Riverhead after a report that shots had been fired in the parking lot and found a 32-year old man in his vehicle with gunshot wounds.

Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and transported the victim to Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said. A 34-year old woman, also shot, had also been driven to Peconic Bay Medical Center before authorities arrived, police said.

The man was transferred to Southside Hospital with serious injuries; the woman also sustained serious injuries and remained hospitalized, police said.

The shootings are believed to have stemmed from a verbal argument in the parking lot that escalated, police said.

The New York State Police Department's forensic investigation unit responded and assisted with the crime scene investigation, which is ongoing; anyone who may have information is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631) 727-4500, police said.
