Sad Shelter Dog Who 'Just Wants A Person' Finds A Home

Great news for a sad shelter dog who was searching for someone to love him: Gio has finally "found his human," and a forever home.

(North Fork Animal Welfare League.)

NORTH FORK, NY — It's the happiest of endings for a stray dog who was struggling after finding himself back at the shelter.

According to Gabrielle Stroup of the North Fork Animal Welfare League in Peconic, Gio came to the shelter from another rescue group after being found as a stray."He was adopted and then sadly ended up back at the shelter when an older dog in the home would not accept him. He is not doing well at the shelter at all," she said last week. "He just wants a person."

But, after reading about Gio's plight in Patch, the public opened their hearts and not even two days later, Gio found someone willing to give him a forever home.

His adoption follows the placement of another senior dog, Cookie, who had been crying at the shelter after losing her owner and longtime four-footed friend.

"The response has been amazing!" Stroup said. "The amount of shares, the phone calls and emails about these dogs is heartwarming. The fact that this many people are willing to take these older dogs who are not doing well in a shelter environment is just awesome to see."
