'Salute Long Island' Flyover Honors Front Line Heroes: WATCH

LONG ISLAND, NY — Residents across Long Island looked to brilliant blue skies Friday as they saluted front line heroes during a flyover by the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing.
The "Salute Long Island" flyover was a tribute to health care workers, first responders and essential employees, with an expanded flight path that includes a long list of local hospitals.
The flyover began Friday just after noon at the ANG base at Gabreski Airport.

"This gesture, from the men and women of your New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing, is intended to salute everyone working hard in this fight against COVID-19," the update reads. "Wherever you are out there doing your part, this is for you."

The event featured three aircraft, an HC-130J Combat King II search-and-rescue airplane and two HH-60G Pave Hawk search-and-rescue helicopters.
The 106th asked that individuals not travel to see the flyover but, instead, enjoy the show from wherever they are.
