School Bus Sideswipes Vehicle Due To Snowdrifts: Police

Snowdrifts made it difficult for the bus and car to pass; no students were injured, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A Southold school bus sideswiped a vehicle Friday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on Friday at 7:38 a.m. on Gardiners Lane when a school bus driven by Thomas Costas, 70, of Greenport, sideswiped the vehicle driven by Karen Byrnes, 52, of Southold.

The roadway was narrowed by snowdrifts making it difficult for 2 vehicles to pass in opposite directions, police said.

The school bus was occupied by students traveling to school, but no one was injured in the crash, police said.

No charges were filed, police said.
