Shelter Dogs Desperately Need Homes For The Holidays
"Please don't make them spend the holidays in a shelter."
NORTH FORK, NY — Dogs rescued from sometimes unthinkable situations in Georgia that have been brought to the North Fork to begin their new lives are now looking to go home for the holidays.
According to Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations for The League, which now has locations in Peconic and Aquebogue, two life-saving transports headed to the North Fork last weekend, with just under 30 dogs.
But now, just about the same number of dogs are waiting at the shelters for their forever homes, with adoptions needed, Stroup said. "Don't make them spend the holidays in a shelter," she said.

Stroup, who has spearheaded a number of transports and is known for having a magic touch when it comes to finding families for the pups she saves, said the mission is deeply rewarding.
"I am super excited to be able to keep saving dogs," she said. "The community has been so supportive and has shown up to foster, donate and adopt. It feels amazing when the van pulls in and you know you have saved their lives — and you can give them a chance at their happy life."
