There was an Oysterponds Point and now it is Orient Point. According to the Reverend Epher Whitaker's "Whitaker's Southold" the index on page 191 reads: "Orient, name adopted in 1840 for Oysterponds..."
East Marion, New York was formerly known as Rocky Point. Tradition tells us that the hamlet’s present name came from a local admirer of General Francis Marion, the “Swamp Fox” of the American Revolution. An “east” was added when it became known that New York State already had a place named Marion.”
