Son's Heartfelt Plea To Help Dad, Battling Cancer

"Please help them offset costs and make their lives a little bit easier so my dad can focus on getting better."

SOUTHOLD, NY — A devoted son has opened his heart to ask for help for his dad during his time of need.

A GoFundMe page, "My Dad Was Diagnosed With Thyroid Cancer," was created by Colin Patrick Hanold in Southold for his father, Christopher Hanold.

"My dad was diagnosed with thyroid cancer a couple of weeks ago, and although there is a good chance this is easily curable, my dad has to be out of work for a while as he awaits surgery next month and beyond for treatments," he wrote. "My mom will have to take on all the finances and have to work 80+ hours to even make up for the loss. Please help them offset these costs and make their lives a little bit easier so my dad can focus on getting better and for both of them to not stress about paying the bills. Anything will help — thank you."

In an update, he wrote: "The support has been tremendous and beyond anything we have imagined so far. My dad goes in for surgery on Jan. 24, and fingers crossed everything will be okay. He will still be out of work for a while after as he undergoes further treatments and recovers. Much love and appreciation to you all."

Friends and supporters have raised $1,345 of a $5,000 goal so far to help the beloved local family.

Colin's dad, one woman wrote, "has been a volunteer firefighter and paramedic for years now. He’s been rushing off to almost every call, even in the middle of the night. I’m asking firemen everywhere to help your brother with whatever you can."
