Takeout is available after donating, but only from 5 to 8 p.m. Those who donate from 2:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. but would like to come back and pick up a dinner after 5 p.m. are welcome to do so. "Guarantee you won't be hungry!" a post announcing the event said.

A vast supply of blood is needed not only in Southold, but Island-wide, organizers said. "If you live anywhere from Orient to Riverhead, we'd love to see you Wednesday. It's fairly painless, and doesn't take very long to donate."
