The town board congratulated Peter on his significant achievements and wished him well in all his future endeavors.
"Peter’s achievement is well deserved. He should take great pride in it. He should also know that the community takes great pride in him," Russell said in an email after the meeting.
Peter's mother, Jill Franke, said his whole family is "so proud of him and his accomplishments." She added that they are grateful to Southold Town Youth Bureau Director Lynn Nyilas "for taking him under her wing. The youth program is excellent and it's wonderful that Southold Town supports it," she said.
Peter will attend Suffolk County Community College in the fall.
