Southold Man Indicted on Rape, Kidnapping Charges After Attacking Woman in Greenport Woods: Court Docs

BREAKING: Jose Amadeo Perez was indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury and will be arraigned Friday, according to court records.

A Southold man initially who threatened a woman with cutting shears and dragged her into the Greeport woods has been indicted on rape and kidnapping charges, according to court records.

According to online Suffolk County court documents, Jose Amadeo Perez, 38, was indicted on two counts of rape, forcible compulsion, and one count of second degree kidnapping. He is slated to be arraigned at Suffolk County Criminal Court in Riverside Friday before Judge Barbara Kahn.

Last week, Perez was arrested after the attack, during which he threatened to rape and kill a woman and then tried to drag her into a wooded area in Greenport, police said.

The attack took place at 3 p.m. on Oct. 25 on Route 25 in Greenport, police said.

Perez was arrested and charged with second degree attempted assault, a felony, first degree unlawful imprisonment, a felony, second degree menacing, a misdemeanor, and second degree harassment, a violation, police said.

The initial charges did not include the enhanced rape and kidnapping charges, according to a police report.

Southold Police responded to Route 25 in Greenport after a report of a man physically attacking a woman, police said.

Upon arrival police found a 27-year-old female, who said an "unknown man" had threatened her with a pair of cutting shears and told her that he was going to rape and kill her, then attempted to drag her to a nearby wooded area, police said.

Amadeo Perez was located in the area and placed under arrest; he was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and held for arraignment, police said.
