Southold Town Board Unanimously Approves $42.9 Million 2016 Budget, Adds Extra $750K

The board approved the budget during a board meeting on Tuesday.

The Southold Town Board voted unanimously to approve the 2016 budget of $42.9 million and added $750,000 back to replenish the fund balance at the board meeting on Tuesday.

Town Supervisor Scott Russell released the tentative budget in September, which reflects a reduction of total spending of 0.7 percent, according to Russell’s budget message.

The proposed budget would result in a total tax increase of 0.54 percent.

On Tuesday, the board first discussed the request made by Town Highway Superintendent Vincent Orlando to add an extra $250,000 to work on repairing roads after the town spent the entire $750,000 allocated to road resurfacing.

The board decided to add the money for road resurfacing in addition to $500,000 as a contingency fund.

The additional money would mean a tax increase of 3.85 percent and a tax cap of 0.73 percent, SoutholdLocal report.
