Southold Winery Closed Down Since July Announces Reopening
The local winery closed down for not having the proper certificates.

Southold Farm + Cellar recently announced they were reopening after they were asked by the Town of Southold to shut down in July since they did not have the proper certificates.
“After spending the last two months working with various agencies, organizations and the Town of Southold, we took the proactive steps this week to mitigate the major issues facing our property and our operation,” a message on the Southold Farm + Cellar Facebook page signed by Regan, Carey, Coralai and Sawyer Meador read.
“Now with only one issue facing the zoning board and our every intention to move forward quickly and completely with the planning department we have decided to re-open our doors.”

The winery, located on Old North Road and currently owned the Meador family, ceased their operations on July 9 after it was discovered that they “did not have the certificates to do what they’re doing or approval from other agencies,” according to Southold’s Chief Building Inspector, Michael Verity.
Southold Farm + Cellar only had a certificate of occupancy for a single family dwelling and an open permit for a farm stand, according to Verity.

The winery, which opened in 2014 after the family purchased the land in 2012 claimed in July that they had “sought guidance with the town and have been completely upfront with what [they] intended to do.”
“The last few months have been a great education for us and as we’ve said before, we look forward to being an asset to this town,” the recent Facebook post read.
The winery hopes to be able to generate the revenue necessary to keep them afloat and pay for the upcoming harvest.
Southold Wine + Cellar will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
