As a researcher, I happened to come across an undated Tribute to Rensselaer Goldsmith Terry that read -{&}- I quote:
"... Honor was his, however, of a worthy kind. One which meant a great deal to him came at the time he was superintendent of the Universalist Church Sunday School, which position he held for twenty years. At a special occasion arranged for him, Sandburg's 'Lincoln" was presented as a gift from the school. Nothing more appropriate could have been done for him. He little realized himself that he possessed Lincoln-like qualities - humility, a seeing of the right and a strength to carry out the right, simplicity lacking pretense, and a tolerant, forgiving attitude if wronged. The youth who belonged to R. G. Terry's Sunday School class could not but be imbued by his spirit...."
THAT UNDATED ARTICLE WAS FOUND IN THE SOUTHOLD FREE LIBRARY WHITAKER HISTORICAL COLLECTION. YES FOLKS, I NEVER LEFT THERE EVEN THOUGH I AM NOW RETIRED.
