'Surprisingly Violent Storm' Tries To Topple Beloved Orient Tree
"There's still life in that old piece of history and, with a little luck and judicious trimming, it will live on for many a year to come."

ORIENT, NY — A tree that has stood for generations in Orient was battered by Friday's storm.
According to the Oysterponds Historical Society, "during a brief but surprisingly violent storm this afternoon, Mother Nature did her best to take down Orient's beloved buttonwood tree at the head of Youngs Road."
But, while a large portion broke off and took down utility wires, "according to the good folks at Beaver Tree, there's still life in that old piece of history and, with a little luck and some judicious trimming, it will live on for many a year to come," the historical society wrote.
