Team of Angels Save Elderly Man After Near Drowning at Founders Landing: Police

Lifeguards, along with an off-duty nurse and EMT, teamed up to perform a miracle Wednesday in Southold.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A team of angels saved an elderly man, reviving him after a near-drowning at Founders Landing Beach Wednesday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, a call came in at 12:50 from Founders Landing Beach, located on Terry Lane.

After swimming at the Founders Landing Park, the man was found to be unconscious in the water, a victim of an apparent drowning, police said.

Southold Park District lifeguard Sean Tuthill entered the water and removed victim to the shore, where he was assisted by lifeguard Meg Tuthill in initiating CPR on the beach, police said.

Witnesses who were at the beach, Joseph Janketic and Donna McCabe, assisted the lifeguards in performing CPR on the man, until the arrival of fire department EMTs and police, officials said.

Janketic is an off-duty EMT from South Carolina; McCabe is an off duty nurse.

Southold Fire Department Rescue arrived on scene and continued care and CPR with the assistance of Southold Police units and the Stony Brook Hospital first responder unit, police said.

After a short period of time, a pulse was restored and the patient began to breathe on his own, police said; he was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for further treatment.
