Thief Breaks Into Home While Terrified Woman Is Inside: Police
Terrifying: A woman called 911 to say someone was trying to break into her home at 4 a.m.; the thief got in, stole her purse, police say.
AQUEBOGUE, NY — A terrified woman called 911 to say someone was trying to break into her house while she was home inside — and then, got in and stole her purse, police said.
According to the Riverhead Police Department, the incident took place Friday at 4:04 a.m. on Peconic Bay Blvd. in Aquebogue when a woman called 911 to say someone was trying to enter her home while she was inside.
The person did break in and stole her purse, and then fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

A New York State Police K-9 unit responded to the scene and searched the area with no results, police said.
The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information should call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500. All calls will remain confidential.
