Truck Driver Saves Beagles Found In Cold, Filthy Pen: Shelter

All three beagles need loving, warm homes.

PECONIC, NY — A truck driver came to the rescue of a family of beagles who were living outside in bitter cold and a dirty pen, according to the North Fork Animal Welfare League.

According to Gabrielle Stroup of the NFAWL, a truck driver got lost and ended up at the end of a dirt road where he noticed the beagles.

"He was very concerned. He called the shelter stating there were 3 beagles outside in a pen with no food or water — and the pen was filthy," Stroup said.

Gillian Wood Pultz, executive director of the NFAWL, went to assess the situation and "saw the same thing," Stroup said. "While at the location, the owner showed up."

The owner willingly surrendered the dogs, and they are now at the NFAWL's Peconic location on Peconic Lane, Stroup said.

Delilah is the mama beagle, 7 years old; Deedee is a 2-year-old female and Dunkin is her 2-year-old brother.

"They are all super sweet, typical beagles. Please come in and visit them. They do not have to go home together," Stroup said.

Those interested in giving the beagles a forever home should email manager@nfawl.org or call 631-765-1811 Ext. 1.
