And The Winner of Lucharitos' Hot Dog Eating Contest Is . . .

See if you can guess who won the hot dog eating contest at Lucharitos in Greenport.

GREENPORT, NY - If you closed your eyes you could almost hear the surf, smell the salty ocean air and hear the delighted screams of kids riding the Cyclone at the Coney Island shore.

Lucharitos brought a taste of Coney Island to Greenport Wednesday night with the 1st Lucharitos Hot Dog Eating Contest, presented by the Coney Island Brewing Company.

The event featured $5 Coney Island Pilsner or Home Plate pints — and hot dogs. Lots and lots of hot dogs.

Lucharitos owner Marc LaMaina said he stocked up with about 200 hot dogs ahead of the big event.

Despite their best efforts, none of the contestants could beat winner Sterling Smiley, who, LaMaina said, won, downing 10 hot dogs in a spectacular time of 12 minutes.

But can Smiley amp his hot dog devouring efforts up to the next level and head to Coney Island next year?

The Lucharitos event mirrored the popular Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2016 and always takes place at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island, right by Nathan's.

2016's winners were Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo; last week, Chestnut blew away the competition, scarfing down 70 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, according to eater.com.
