MATTITUCK, NY — A woman on an inner tube being swept out with the tide was rescued in Mattituck Friday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 2:24 p.m. on Breakwater Road; an anonymous call came in that a woman, Lauren Livingston, 41, of Mattituck, was on an inner tube float in the inlet and being taken out by the tide.

Southold Town lifeguard Molly Tuthill, 17, saw Livingston in distress and swam out to her, but soon realized that the current was too strong and made the decision to signal an incoming civilian boat, police said.
