Woman On Motorcycle Speeds 100 MPH, Tries To Escape Police: PD

She eventually dropped her motorcycle and tried to flee on foot, police say.

GREENPORT, NY — A woman was arrested Tuesday after she fled from police, heading from Mattituck to Greenport at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour — then dropped the bike and tried to escape on foot, authorities sad.

According to Southold Town police, Katerina Tzannes, 25, of Greenport and Bayside, was arrested at 2:04 p.m. on Manhasset Avenue in Greenport.

The Southold Town highway patrol attempted to stop a red motorcycle, which has no visible license plate, police said. The motorcyclist failed to stop and fled from officers, heading east on County Road 48 in Mattituck, police said. The motorcycle reached speeds that were estimated to be more than 100 miles per hour, police said.

Officers followed the motorcycle to Manhansett Avenue in Greenport, where Tzannes, the owner and operator of the motorcycle dropped her bike and fled on foot, police said.

Tzannes was located a short time after and arrested; she was charged with third-degree fleeing from an officer in a motor vehicle; imprudent speed; having a knowingly obscured, covered plate; improper passing in a motorcycle; improper passing on the right; unsafe turn; failure to signal; operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate; improper plate, a motorcycle violation; and driving an unregistered and uninspected vehicle, police said.

Tzannes' motorcycle was impounded for unlawful fleeing from police, authorities said. Tzannes was processed and released with a court date, police said.
